Install and activate Privacy VPN on a Mac device

After you purchase Malwarebytes Privacy VPN, you need to install and activate the product on your Mac device. To purchase a subscription for Malwarebytes Privacy VPN, click here.

To install and activate Malwarebytes Privacy VPN on your macOS device, follow the steps below. 

  1. Download the latest version of Privacy VPN.
  2. Double-click MalwarebytesPrivacy-x.x.xx.xxx.dmg. 
  3. In the pop-up window, drag the Malwarebytes Privacy icon to the Applications folder.
  4. In the same window, double-click the Applications folder.
  5. The Applications folder opens, double-click Malwarebytes Privacy.
  6. Click Open to confirm you want to open an app downloaded from the Internet.
  7. Malwarebytes Privacy opens. Click Get Started.
  8. Choose one of the provided options then follow the on-screen steps to activate:
    • Sign in: Enter your My Account log in credentials, your Email address and Password to activate. To set up your My Account log in, see Create and manage your Malwarebytes Account.
    • Enter license key or MB code: Enter your license key and click Activate. If you previously installed Malwarebytes Privacy VPN on a Windows or Mac device, you can activate the product using the MB code. Learn more about how to generate MB Code.
  9. Privacy needs to load a system extension. Click Open preferences.
    • On macOS Ventura devices, the Privacy & Security windows opens.
      1. Click Allow next to the System software from application "Malwarebytes Privacy" was blocked from loading message.
      2. Enter your system password and click Unlock.
    • On macOS Sierra to Monterey, the Security & Privacy window opens.
      1. Click the lock icon at the bottom left of the window, enter the system password, and click Unlock.
      2. Click Allow on the bottom right. Click the lock icon at the bottom-left corner to prevent further changes to your settings.
  10. Once configured, Malwarebytes Privacy displays the app Dashboard. Switch on the ON/OFF toggle.
  11. In the pop-up window, select Allow under Malwarebytes Privacy Would Like to Filter Network Content. This is an Apple policy requirement. Malwarebytes does not monitor your online activities or data. Read more about our Privacy Policy.
  12. The application shows Your connection is private.
