When your yearly subscription is about to expire, Malwarebytes will notify you via email 30 days before the expiration date. Sometimes, we send additional reminders 15 and 7 days before expiration. These emails are sent by either Cleverbridge or 2Checkout, who are our trusted PCI-compliant payment processors.
It is very important that you only interact with legitimate renewal emails, as some scammers may pretend to be Malwarebytes to trick you into giving them personal information. Malwarebytes will never ask for the following information in our emails or during conversations with our support team:
- Passwords
- PINs
- Verification codes
- Social Security numbers
- Credit card information
Tips on how to detect phishing attacks
Phishing attempts are intended to trick you into giving up personal information, so it's important to be extra vigilant when checking your email. If you get a suspicious email, be aware of these signs of phishing attempts:
- The email presents an offer that seems too good to be true.
- The email address, sender's name, or website URL is misspelled.
- The message urges you to click and act immediately to prevent a bad outcome.
- The message includes unexpected or odd attachments or links.
For more information on how to identify a phishing email attempt and protect yourself against it, you can check our blog post All about phishing.
What to do if an email is illegitimate
If an email appears to be illegitimate or a scam, do not click on any links or reply to the message. Instead, sign in to your Malwarebytes account and contact our support team using the chat function. See this article on creating a Malwarebytes account if you do not have one.
Once you have signed in, click the Chat icon at the bottom right of your account to speak with our AI Chatbot. You can converse with the chatbot to connect with a live person or create a support ticket. Our Support team can confirm whether the email is legitimate or a phishing attempt and help you through the next steps.
