After updating to the latest version of Browser Guard for Chrome or Edge, an error message appears in the top right corner of your browser. When clicked, it displays the message: Malwarebytes Browser Guard is disabled.
What caused this issue
The Browser Guard version 3.0 and higher include new blocking technology as well as a feature where you can share the Browser Guard extension with others via social media or a copied link. With these new features, Browser Guard also needs new permissions. If you miss Browser Guard's permissions request or exit out of it, Browser Guard will disable and you will see the error message in the top right of your browser.
How to resolve this issue
To re-enable Browser Guard and fix this issue, you need to allow Browser Guard the necessary permissions.
- In the top right of your browser, click the Error message.
- A pop up appears, instructing you to accept the new permissions.
- Note: Malwarebytes does not control the wording used to describe the new permissions. Your browser will present the permissions in its own terminology. For more details on what these permissions mean, see our article: Explaining Browser Guard permissions.
- Click Accept permissions.
- Restart your browser. Browser Guard should be re-enabled and the error message should be gone.
