An exploit is a program or code that tries to take control of your system by finding and misusing a vulnerability. Exploit Protection stops malicious software that tries to take advantage of those vulnerabilities.
Add apps to Exploit Protection
Apps and programs on your Windows device are safeguarded by Exploit Protection by default. Apps installed after you enable Exploit Protection are not automatically defended. If you want to guard an app you recently installed, you can easily add it to the list of protected apps by clicking Configure protected applications.
To add an app to Exploit Protection:
- Open your Desktop Security app.
- Click Settings
in the sidebar.
- Click Protection.
- Under Exploit Protection, click Configure protected attachments.
- In the Protected applications screen, click the Custom tab.
- Click Add item. This opens a new screen.
- Enter an app name in the Application name field.
- Click Browse to select the app file you want to add.
- Select a Program type using the drop-down menu. If you are unsure of the type of program, select Other.
- Click the blue Add button to finish adding an app to Exploit Protection.
The newly added app appears under the Custom tab, where you can toggle protection on or off. Hover your cursor over the app and click the pencil icon to edit it, or click the trash icon
to delete the item and stop it from being protected.
Advanced settings in Exploit Protection
The Advanced settings allow you to see and change more details of Exploit Protection. These settings are configured based on our recommendations. Only adjust advanced settings when a Malwarebytes Support representative tells you to as making changes on your own could lower your protection. You can always click Restore default settings if you accidentally made a change.
