Install Desktop Security on macOS devices

Start protecting your device against malware, viruses, and other threats with the app. Follow the instructions below to download and install the app on your macOS device.

Before installing the app, check if your device is compatible with the system requirements.

1. Download the app for Mac.
2. Navigate to the Malwarebytes Mac installation file in your Downloads folder and double-click to open it.
3. Review the introduction, then click Continue.
4. Review the Read Me page, then click Continue.
5. Review the Malwarebytes Software License Agreement, then click Continue.
6. A pop-up asks you to agree to the license agreement. Click Agree.
7. Confirm the installation destination, then click Continue. Most people use the default Macintosh disk drive as the destination. 
8. Confirm the installation destination and type, then click Install. A pop-up asks you to verify the installation.
9. Input your Mac username and password, then click Install Software. 
10. After the app finishes installing, click Close. 
11. A pop-up asks if you want to move the installer to the Trash or keep it. Select Keep or Move to Trash.
12. After installing your security product, a welcome page opens. Click Get Started to continue with the setup.
13. Select your type of device: 
    • Personal Computer: a device you or your family own for home and personal use.
    • Work Computer: a device owned by your company or place of employment, like Malwarebytes for Teams customers. 
14. The next screen gives you the following options to activate the app:
    • Buy Now: Click this button to view subscription purchase options.
    • Activate license: Click this button if you already have a subscription. You'll be directed to a new screen where you can sign in to your Malwarebytes account, enter a license key, or enter an MB code to enable your subscription. 
      • If using your account: Enter your email and password, then click Sign in.
      • If using an MB code: Generate the code from the Mobile Security app, VPN app, or your account. Then enter the code into the activation field and click Activate. 
      • If using a license key: Enter the key into the field, then click Activate. 
    • Maybe later: Click this button to use the free version. You cannot use Scheduled Scans and Real-Time Protection in the free version.

After you buy a subscription, activate a subscription, or skip to the free version you have successfully installed the app on your macOS device.
