You can customize your VPN experience by managing settings in the app. For macOS devices, you'll need to give the app permission before changing VPN settings. Follow the instructions in Using the VPN in Desktop Security to enable the necessary permissions.
To view VPN settings:
- Open the app.
- Click the settings icon in the sidebar.
- Click VPN.
Connect to other devices with the Trust local devices setting
Available in: Windows, macOS
Trusted local devices are things like printers, mobile devices, or other computers connected to your network. When this setting is on, you can share your data with trusted local devices. This setting is enabled by default.
Set up Connection rules for website security
Available in: Windows, macOS
Connection rules prevent you from accessing a website when your VPN is not on. This helps keep your personal information secure.
How to apply a Connection rule to a website
- Open the app.
- Click Settings.
- Click VPN in the sidebar.
- You scroll to find the Connection rule setting. On macOS devices, toggle Connection rules on.
- Underneath Connection rules, click Configure.
- On the Connection rules page, click Add item.
- Select the type:
- Application: Select an application from your device's application folder, then click Open for macOS devices or Save for Windows devices.
- IP address: Enter an IPv4 address in the Add IP field, then click Save.
- Port (Windows only): Enter a port address, then click Save.
How to remove a Connection rule from a website
- Open the app.
- Click Settings.
- Click VPN in the sidebar.
- Scroll to the Connection rule setting, then click Configure.
- In the list of Connection rules, hover over the item you want to remove.
- For Windows devices: Click the trashcan icon. A pop-up asks if you want to delete this item; click Delete.
- For macOS devices: Click the vertical ellipses, then click Delete. A pop-up asks if you want to delete this item; click Delete.
How the Kill switch setting affects your internet connection

The Kill Switch setting is disabled by default and can only be turned on if the Auto connect VPN setting is enabled. The Kill switch setting stops your computer from connecting to the internet if your VPN is disconnected or off.
