Automatic updates and scans do not run in Malwarebytes for Windows Premium

By default, Malwarebytes for Windows Premium automatically performs database updates and scheduled scans.  When your computer is off, asleep, or locked, Malwarebytes for Windows Premium cannot scan your computer or update the database.  If you find Malwarebytes for Windows Premium is not updating or scanning automatically, use this article to configure your settings.

 

Configure update settings

You may notice Malwarebytes for Windows Premium displays a Your updates are not current notification if Malwarebytes for Windows Premium has not updated in over 24 hours.  Either click Update Now or wait for Malwarebytes for Windows Premium to check for updates automatically.

 

 

To change the update settings in Malwarebytes for Windows Premium:

  1. Open Malwarebytes for Windows Premium.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click the Protection tab.
  4. Scroll down to Updates.
  5. In the Updates settings, you can configure the following options:
    1. Automatically check for updates.
      • Click the slider to turn automatic updates on or off.
    2. Check for updates every [1 Hour].
      • Choose how frequently Malwarebytes for Windows Premium checks for updates.
    3. Notify me if time since last update exceeds 24 hours.
      • Click the slider to turn update notifications on or off.

 

Configure Scan Schedule settings

Malwarebytes for Windows Premium automatically scans your computer using your scheduled scans.  It's possible your scan is scheduled to run when your computer is off or locked.  The default time is approximately 2:30am Standard Time.  Have your scheduled scans start when your computer is going to be on and unlocked.

 

To configure a scheduled scan in Malwarebytes for Windows Premium:

  1. Open Malwarebytes for Windows Premium.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Scan Schedule.
  4. Click the box next to the scan you want to configure.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. In the Edit Schedule window, you can configure the following options:
    1. Operation type.
      • Choose the type of scan you want to schedule.
    2. Starting Date and Starting Time.
      • Choose when the schedule starts and what time the scan runs
    3. Schedule Frequency and Recurrence.
      • Choose how often the scan should run.
    4. Click Advanced to see more options.
  7. Click OK to save your scheduled scan.
