How-to: Stop Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from blocking/scanning a file or program.

We have all run into this before, where our anti-virus or security software is blocking or attempting to remove a file/program that we, as a consumer, feel are trusted items.

 

This stems from companies having different opinions about what is or isn't malicious code. We have set up an easy process for a user to stop Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v.2.x from blocking a file or program that you trust. This process is called Adding a Malware Exclusion. This option allows you to exclude files and/or folders from scans, as well as from being blocked by the real-time protection features. To add a new Malware Exclusion:

 

  1. Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v.2.x
  2. Click Settings -> Malware Exclusions
  3. Click one of the three options:
  • Add File
    • Add File will exclude a single file. To add a file to the Exclusion List:
      1. Click Add File
      2. Navigate to the file's location
      3. Click the file to select it, then click Open
  • Add Folder
    • Add Folder will exclude an entire folder. To add a folder to the Exclusion List:
      1. Click Add Folder
      2. Navigate to the folder's location
      3. Click the folder to select it, then click Open
  • Remove
    • Remove will delete an existing Malware Exclusion. Simply click the exclusion you wish to remove, then click Remove
