Malwarebytes for Windows displays notifications about events such as scans, Real Time Protection, and updates.  This article provides instructions on how to configure the Malwarebytes for Windows notification settings.  



To turn off notifications or change when notifications close, use the instructions below.


Turn off notifications

To turn off non-critical notifications from Malwarebytes for Windows:

  1. Open Malwarebytes for Windows.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click the Application tab.
  4. Under Notifications, see Show Malwarebytes notifications in the Windows System Tray.
  5. Click the slider to turn this setting off.


IMPORTANT: Critical notifications

Malwarebytes for Windows does not turn off critical notifications.  Most critical notifications require the user to take action.


Here is a list of Malwarebytes for Windows critical notifications:

  • Your Premium Trial expired
  • Your Premium subscription has expired
  • We're unable to renew your subscription
  • Malware blocked
  • Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) blocked
  • Scan complete
    • Malwarebytes for Windows displays a notification if scans detect malware, potential threats, or no threats.
    • Malware and potential threats must be quarantined or added to exclusions.
  • Your updates are not current
    • This notification appears if Malwarebytes for Windows does not have the latest component update.
    • Malwarebytes for Windows Premium installs updates automatically when the computer is on.
      • Malwarebytes for Windows Premium does not perform automatic updates if the computer is asleep or off.
  • Real-time Protection turned off
    • This notification does not appear if you turn off Real Time Protection notifications.
  • Reboot required


Turn off Real Time Protection notifications

  1. Open Malwarebytes for Windows.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click the Application tab.
  4. Under Notifications, see Show Notifications when Real Time Protection settings are turned off.
  5. Click the slider.
  6. A window appears asking you to confirm you want to turn off Real-Time Protection notifications.
  7. Click Turn Off Notifications.
  8. After you click Turn Off Notifications, the slider moves into the off position.


Choose when notifications close

  1. Open Malwarebytes for Windows.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click the Application tab.
  4. Under Notifications, see Close notifications after.
    • Note: Changing this setting does not affect Real Time Protection notifications.

  1. Click the drop-down menu and choose how many seconds notifications appear on your screen.
