When you activate your license, an automatic scan will be set up for you. This scan will execute as long as the computer is on and in an active state. However, if you want to perform an additional scan, you can manually initiate a scan from the scan Menu. This guide will tell you the differences between the 3 different scans, and how to execute each one. Malwarebytes 3 has three different scan types:

  • Threat Scan - It scans all the places malware is known to hide, including Memory, Startup, Registry and FileSystem Objects. This is recommended as your daily scan
  • Custom Scan - Allows you to scan where and what you want to scan. Modifications include choosing which Objects to scan (Memory, Startup and Registry). Enables you to customize the treatment of Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) and Modifications (PUMs).
  • Hyper Scan (Available with Malwarebytes Premium Only) - Quickly checks Memory and Startup Objects for active malware threats. If anything is found, we recommend running a Threat Scan afterward for more comprehensive detection.
