How can I troubleshoot problems with my browser extensions?

If you are still having ad problems after scanning for adware with AdwareMedic, removing that adware and restarting the computer (if necessary), and you still have ad problems in a specific browser, you may have a bad browser extension.

In Safari:

    1. Click the Safari Menu, then click Preferences
    2. Click the Extensions icon

In Chrome:

    1. Click the Chrome menu, then click Preferences
    2. Click Extensions on the left side of the page

In Firefox:

    1. Click Tools, then Add-ons
    2. Click Extensions on the left side of the page that loads

Next, begin disabling your browser's extensions one at a time. Do not disable more than one at a time! After disabling one extension, use your browser as you normally would until either the problem returns or you feel certain the problem is gone. (Be aware that more than one extension might be causing a problem, so keep an eye out for the details. If certain types of ads stop after disabling an extensions, but not all of them, you may have multiple bad extensions installed.)

If the problem returns, repeat the process, disabling a different extension. (Do not re-enable any previously disabled extensions yet!) If the problem is gone, the last extension you disabled was the cause of the problem.

Once you have found the cause of the problem, do not delete the extension yet! First, take a system snapshot with Anti-Malware for Mac, and send it to our Support team, including in your problem description the names of the extensions that were found to be a problem. After that, you can delete them from your web browser.

If you have disabled all extensions and the problem continues, the source of the problem must be something other than browser extensions. Click here for further steps.
